Balakovo NPP: power unit No. 2 has been connected to the power grid

On February 28, at 6:10 power unit No. 2 of Balakovo NPP has been connected to the grid upon completion of scheduled maintenance.

Warming and startup of the power unit were carried out in accordance with technological requirements for safe operation.

At present the plant operates all four power units. The total load as of 12:00 Moscow time is 3,900 MW.

The radiation background at Balakovo NPP and in the adjacent territory is not changed, corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed the natural background values.

Balakovo NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Saratov Reservoir, 10 kilometers to the north-east of Balakovo city, Saratov region. The plant has four power units with modernized VVER-100 reactors (V-320 modification) with installed electric capacity of 1,000 MW each. The first power unit was put into operation in 1985, the second Р in 1987, the third Р in 1988 and the fourth Р in 1994. Balakovo NPP is one of the largest and up-to-date enterprises of the Russian nuclear power industry producing a quarter of electric power in Volga federal district. The plant supplies energy to Volga region, the central part of Russia, Ural and Siberia.
