Electric installation works have begun at the construction site of the 2nd power unit of Kursk NPP-2

The installation of electrical equipment has begun at the construction site of the power unit No 2 of Kursk NPP-2 replacement plant: the constructors started installing sensors of an automated stress-strain state monitoring system. These are the first works carried out on the bedding artificially created from the sand-gravel mix for the reactor building of the 2nd power unit of Kursk NPP-2.

The automated stress-strain state monitoring system is one of the many systems designed to ensure safety at the future power unit. “We will install 19 sensors on the bottom side of the base plate. Further, as the reactor building is erected, the sensors will be installed in the base plate and in the containment shell. The system will monitor the state of the building structures of the entire facility - tilt, base pressure. This is important for the safety of the power unit”, Dmitriy Koshelev, the Deputy Chief Engineer of Joint Stock Company Corporation ESKM LLC Novovoronezh Office and the representative of the contractor organization performing the works, said.

The same system has already been installed at the first power unit of KuNPP-2 – two parts of the automated stress-strain state monitoring system were mounted there (19 sensors under the foundation bedding and 10 in the bedding itself) – as well as at Novovoronezh and Belarusian NPPs.

The sensors are metal ‘pancakes’ with a complex filling. The installation takes place with the direct participation of a representative of the manufacturer who controls the correctness of the equipment installation.

After the electric installation, the specialists will begin assembly and construction works – erecting the concrete blinding coat. The contractor, Trest Rosspetsenergomontazh JSC, installed channel bars for pouring the concrete mix in the base of the bedding.

“Previously, a geodesic surveying of the elevations of buildings and structures was carried out at the site of the 2nd power unit. At the moment we are working on the placing of the concrete blinding coat for the foundations of two tower cranes”, Nikolay Bobelev, the Chief Engineer of the Capital Construction of Kursk NPP-2, told about the progress of work at the 2nd power unit site. “The work on the second unit will be optimized according to the experience gained in the construction of the 1st one. A key event is expected at this site in December: we plan to start the reinforcement of the reactor building base plate. The work that is being carried out here is aimed at ensuring the implementation of plans for the coming year.”
