23.04.2018  INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS DEPARTMENT OF LENINGRAD NPP

Leningrad NPP hosted the Leningrad Region Government's field office

The working group of the field office included heads of government committees on the fuel and energy complex, architecture and town planning, economic development and investments, management of Leningrad NPP, and executives from constructor and general contractor organizations.

The office was headed by Andrey Gavrilov, the Chairman of the Fuel and Economic Complex Committee of the Leningrad Oblast Government.

“The task of our field office is to practically assess the prospects for the construction completion, determine whether there is a schedule delay in the new power plant units’ construction or commissioning, and also coordinate the construction of the VVER-1200 reactors with the deadlines for the RBMK-1000 power units’ decommissioning”, he noted. “The resources of the first Plant are not limitless, and we need to clearly understand when to finish the construction of new power facilities. Today we’ve discussed the schedule for commissioning the first power unit; and the main reference point for us is the end of 2018, when the first VVER-1200 unit commissioning certificate is planned to be signed. Following this, we will start to decommission the RBMK power unit No 1.”

During the walkabout, the field office members have visited the unit control center. Now the starting unit is at 50% capacity, and at this stage after 36 more planned tests are completed, the reactor will be put at 75, 90 and 100% capacity.

A. Gavrilov also noted, “There is still a lot to do, but the Government has no concerns that the date of the commercial operation start will shift for some reason. As for the second power unit, which we have also visited today, the construction is going according to the plan: all the key events are being fulfilled on time, and the turbine building shows a sufficiently high construction readiness. We also have learned about the unique technologies that will be used at the power unit No 2 to install the internal protective shell.”

After the walkabout, the guests have discussed the agenda of the meeting. The main issue was the results of Rosatom’s investment program for the Leningrad NPP construction in the first half of 2018.

Upon completion of the field office, Andrey Gavrilov has once again thanked the management of LNPP for the opportunity to visit such a strategically valuable and important place for the region.

Leningrad NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom JSC. The Plant is located at the town of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km west of St. Petersburg on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. LNPP is the first plant in the country with RBMK-1000 reactors (thermal-neutron heat-pipe cooled uranium-graphite nuclear reactors). The NPP operates four power units with an electric capacity of 1,000 MW each. The first unit of replacement capacities with VVER-1200 reactor is at the physical start-up stage, the second VVER-1200 type unit is under construction. Rosenergoatom JSC is the customer-developer of the project, ATOMPROEKT JSC is the general designer, and CONTSERN TITAN-2 JSC is the general contractor.
