Rostov NPP: power unit No 4 dynamic tests under pilot operation are completed

At the power unit No 4 of Rostov NPP (Volgodonsk, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern, a part of Rosatom’s Electric Power Division), the dynamic tests were carried out within the framework of the Experimental-Industrial Pilot Operation stage.

The tests consisted of examining the unit’s blackout mode and power supply from working and auxiliary transformers in the unit's auxiliary system.

“This program’s goal is to confirm the compliance of the equipment, systems, algorithms, and mechanisms operation with the design parameters in the mode of complete de-energization of the power unit”, Svyatoslav Chukavin, the Deputy Chief Engineer for operation of the Phase II of RoNPP, noted.

During the dynamic tests, the automatic start of the diesel generators was checked; actual data on the system and equipment operation and data on the unit’s parameter variations were obtained. The working capacity of the automatic process control system in the unit blackout mode was confirmed.

Dynamic tests once again proved the safety and reliability of the new unit of Rostov NPP.

The commissioning of the power unit No.4 for commercial operation is scheduled for 2018.

Rostov NPP is the branch of the Rosenergoatom Concern JSC (a part of the Electric Energy Division – the largest division of Rosatom State Corporation). The enterprise is located at the shore of Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13 km away from the town of Volgodonsk. The NPP operates the reactors of VVER-1000 type with the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. The power unit No 1 was put into industrial operation in 2001, No 2 – in 2010, No 3 – in September, 2015. The power unit No 4 was started up in February, 2018.
