The most comprehensive complex emergency response exercises will take place at the Beloyarsk NPP involving foreign observers

On September 21-23, 2016, the complex emergency response exercises involving the Rosenergoatom’s Emergency response center, the nuclear power plant assistance group, the Rosatom Emergency Center, the Defence Ministry’s troops, the departments of the Russian Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Response, the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as governmental representatives of the Sverdlovsk Region and the city of Zarechny, will take part at the Beloyarsk NPP.

Over 20 foreign observers from France, Sweden, Norway, Finland and other countries will attend the exercises, too.
The aim of the exercise is to verify the accident-prevention preparedness and to master cooperation between special departments, forces, and tools of different ministries and agencies targeted at emergency response and population protection.
The scenarios for such exercises are based on a virtually impossible combination of several unfavorable events: natural disasters, power blocks’ system failure, etc.

The complex emergency response exercises are the major ones held at the Russian NPPs. In 2015, they took place at the Leningrad NPP in the city of Sosnovy Bor.

During the exercise, the Beloyarsk NPP’s power blocks will operate normally. There are no exercise-related interferences with their operations planned.

The Beloyarsk NPP has come into operation in April 1964. The first power blocks of the Beloyarsk NPP with thermal reactors AMB-100 and AMB-200 has been closed after the accumulated running time. The power block with a fast industrial capacity reactor BN-600 is still on. The power block with a fact reactor BN-800Н is currently being prepared for coming into operation.
