Rosenergoatom obtained Rostekhnadzor license for location of power units Nos. 1 and 2 of Nizhny Novgorod NPP

The Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) issued to Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC a license for location of power units Nos. 1 and 2 of Nizhny Novgorod NPP in Navashino district of Nizhny Novgorod region, next to the Monakovo settlement.

The license received for location for a term of 5 years is an important stage in NPP development and means the definite Rostekhnadzor’s agreement for its engineering.

The next stages of the design and license preparation will be the development of the project documentation and materials in order to obtain the license for the nuclear plant construction.

 The nuclear plant engineering will be performed in accordance with NPP-2006 analogous project basing on which Novovoronezh NPP-2 is being constructed.

By 2012 Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC shall submit to Rostekhnadzor the results of the additional in-depth engineering survey on infrastructure buildings and the structures at Nizhny Novgorod NPP site, power engineers’ housing settlement and the linear objects of the adjacent area.

The preparation work connected with license receit for Nizhny Novgorod NPP location in Navashino region was started 2 years ago when in December, 2008 Sergey Obozov, Rosenergoatom Concern General Director, and Valery Shantsev, Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region, signed the Declaration of Intent to invest into Nizhny Novgorod NPP construction.

In course of that time, for the possibility of NPP construction in this or that region, the territory ranking with account of existing ecologic, building ant technological standards was performed, the materials substantiating the investments into Nizhny Novgorod NPP construction were worked out and checked up by EMERCOM and FMBA of Russia, the positive expert opinion of State Ecologic Examination of materials substantiating the license location was received, the public hearings were held, and the certificate of land plot selection was executed.

Commissioning of Nizhny Novgorod NPPpower units Nos. 1 and 2 of total installed capacity 2,340 МW is planned by 2019 and 2022 respectively. The power units’ life time is equal to 50 years. After Nizhny Novgorod NPP start-up, 1 B rubles annually will be transferred into the budgets of all levels.
