Polyarnye Zori would be ready for public hearings

Today, on June 9, 2011, public hearings on preliminary materials of the EIA (environmental impact evaluation) of Kola NPP power unit No. 4 operation at 107% capacity of the reactor unit from nominal will be held.

The administration of Polyarnye Zori city in collaboration with Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC organized the public hearings. The purpose of the hearings is to discuss EIA preliminary materials with the participation of Murmansk region government representatives, specialists of supervisory agencies and regulatory agencies, environmental protection and nature management, public organizations and all the interested population of the region.

In the course of the public hearings representatives of the main project maker – St. Petersburg Atomenergoproekt, specialists of Rosatom State Corporation and Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Federal Medical and Biological Agency, Polyarnye Zori city administration, Deputies of Murmansk regional Duma and Russian Federation State Duma will appear with reports and messages.

For the sake of power unit No. 4 capacity increase, reconstruction works had been performed at the nuclear plant and its equipment had undergone modernization. The nuclear plant personnel successfully conducted dynamic tests, in the course of which the values of technological parameters of the system and equipment had not a single time exceed the design limits, established by the constructors and producers. After the pilot operation had been finished, the supervisory agency – Rostekhnadzor – made a conclusion that the equipment of power unit No. 4 had been working within acceptable parameters and was ready for the operation at an increased capacity in the course of all the operation period.
