Inna Deriglazova, a female fencer from Kurchatov - the Kursk NPP satellite town, won the fourth Russian golden medal at the Olympic Games 2016

Inna Deriglazova, a Russian female fencer from the city of Kurchatov, which is the Kursk NPP (the Rosenergoatom Concern affiliate company) satellite town, won the fourth Russian golden medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Her counterpart was a two-time Olympic champion from Italy.

Inna Deriglazova studies at the Youth athletic center under the auspices of the Kursk NPP where many champions from all over the world were nurtured, including Evgenia Lamonova, a 2008 Beijing Olympic Games champion.

During the semi-final foil fencing competition, the three-times world champion from Kurchatov won over her compatriot Aida Shanaeva. In the final, the 26-years-old Russian representative defeated Elize Di Francisco, a two-times Olympic champion from Italy, with the score of 12:11, thus becoming the gold winner.

Ms. Deriglazova’s “gold” in Rio de Janeiro became the fourth one the Russian team has achieved during the Olympics in Rio and the first one for the Russian/ Soviet female fencers in this discipline since 1968 when Elena Belova won the Mexico Olympics.

Inna Vasilievna Deriglazova, a Russian foil fencer, was born on March 10, 1990, in the city of Kurchatov, the Kursk region. She is a 2016 Olympic champion in an individual competition (one of the three Olympic champions in female fencing individual competitions throughout the history of the Soviet/ Russian sport), a silver winner of the 2012 Olympics in a team. 


The 2015 world champion in an individual competition and the two-times world champion in team competitions (in 2011 and 2016), a two-times Europe champion. An Honoured Master of Sports in Russia.
