Rosatom opened representative office in Japan

On November 12th, a ceremony took place in Tokyo marking the opening of Rosatom Japan, ROSATOM representative office.

“Tokyo has historically been among our key foreign partners, our cooperation dating back over 20 years. Rosatom holds leading positions in uranium product exports to Japan, supplying nine of the country’s ten energy companies. Expanding our presence here logically continues projects that were successfully implemented before”, said Kirill Komarov, ROSATOM's First Deputy Director General at the opening ceremony.

He emphasized that the opening of the representative office would contribute to cooperation in nuclear medicine and scientific interaction in the field of fast neutron reactors. “We are optimistic about joint research work in reducing radioactive waste and addressing the consequences of the Fukushima Daiichi NPP accident”, Komarov noted.

Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Japan Mikhail Galuzin spoke at the ceremony, underscoring the stably and consistently developing bilateral economic cooperation. According to him, it has been clearly manifested in the opening of Rosatom Japan. “Now that international relations have been marked with increased turbulence and instability, it is all the more important that Russian-Japanese relations set an example of steady and dynamic development. Last year, the trade turnover between the two countries grew by 14% and reached $18 billion, with the trend expected to continue this year”, said Galuzin.
