The Rostov NPP: about 80 percent of the Rostov region residents were in favor of nuclear energy

79% of the Rostov region residents believe that nuclear energy should be developed or maintained at the current level. These data were obtained in a survey, conducted in an independent Scientific and Technical Centre «Perspective» (www.ntcpa.ru). Compared with 2013, this index has increased by 33 per cent.

According to the same case study, more than half - 55 percent of of the Rostov region residents have a positive attitude towards the Rostov NPP.

The general the use of nuclear energy as a way of ensuring our country's electricity was approved by 63 percent of the region's residents and 66 percent of the residents of Volgodonsk.

The main objectives of the study are to evaluate the perception of the region population of nuclear energy and nuclear industry as a whole; identify attitudes towards the nuclear industry, located in the territory of the respondents residence; identification of public opinion about the living conditions in the territory of the Rostov NPP presence. In total, the survey polled nearly 5,500 respondents, or at least 600 cells in each region. The level of the margin error was less than 3%.

The Rostovskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. At nuclear station two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt are operated. The power unit No. 1 is put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010.
