Rostov NPP: the Workers of Nuclear Plants Have Taken Part in Extreme Competitions

In Volgodonsk, the city of Rostov atomists, in “Piligrim”c entre of children’s and youth tourism, on the base of “Russia” physical and recreational complex, the first multirace was held, the founder of which was “Vertikal” tourists’ club.

Multirace is a kind of extreme competitions, a mixture of tracking (fast moving), cycle sports, orienteering, etc. The multirace program may also include intellectual tasks, for example, Sudoku Japanese crosslines.

Eight atomists’ teams: “Vertikal-1”, ‘Vertikal-2”, the teams of “Piligrim” centre, Taganrog, Rostov and Volgodonsk cities teams, took part in the competitions.

The competition program consisted of three stages. The first stage was inland navigation on foot using a topographical map. The second technical stage included such tests as “Web”, “Parallel Passage”, “Ups and Downs on a Slope”, and “Vertical Ups and Downs”. The third stage was cycling inland navigation using space images – it turned out to be the longest one. A wide scale of the stage and the departure to the ice of Tsymlyansk reservoir, according to the participants’ opinion, made this part of the competition the most interesting and exciting.

The sportsmen were divided into two age categories – before and after 35. The workers of Rostov NPP Roman Ulybin and Zufar Minkhazaev took the honorable second prizes. The third prize was taken by the atomists’ team as well – Andrey Gazeev and Alexey Grachev. The winners were awarded diplomas and medals from Rostov NPP Trade Union Committee.

“Vertikal” Tourists Club was established by an initiative group of Rostov NPP travelling atomists in 2001. The club participants are Rostov NPP workers and also all those who are fond of mountains – tourists, climbers, gragsmen, tour multi-athlonists, and active rest amateurs. The club events are not only hiking and gatherings. There are also trainings, lectures, cultural events, New Year meeting, photo contests, and competitions.
