Rostov NPP: participants of the “Childhood Energy” contest have been awarded in the information centre

On March 11, 2011 in the Information Centre of Balakovo NPP there was a ceremony of awarding participants and winners of all-Russian children’s project contest in power engineering called “Childhood Energy”. 

Over 250 children aged 3.5 - 17 years from the entire Rostov region took part in the regional stage of the contest. 63 participants represented Volgodonsk. After summarizing the results four works out of 305 were selected for participation in the all-Russian stage. Two of them are works of Volgodonsk schoolchildren Anastasiya Kostareva and Valery Ilyin.

On March 3, in Moscow the contest results were summarized. Valery Ilyin, a pupil of the Young Technicians’ Station, Volgodonsk, won the Grand Prix. On March 14, he and his teacher Irina Zhukova go to Moscow to take part in the awarding ceremony. 

Among those who came to congratulate the winners and participants of the contest there were teachers, parents, representatives of the city authorities and specialists of Rostov NPP Public Information Centre. 

Deputy Chairman of the city Duma Lyudmila Tkachenko thanked the teachers and parents who helped the children develop their talent. She also wished the contest participants success and ambition and quoted the words of the Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci who had often said to his pupils: “Constantly work hard, because the talent will not develop if it is not accompanied by a lot of work”.

All the winners and participants of the “Childhood Energy” contest got commemorative gifts and diplomas from the nuclear energy information centre of Rostov-on-Don and Rostov NPP. 

The “Childhood Energy” all-Russian children’s project contest in power engineering has been annually organized by Global Energy Non-commercial Partnership since 2008. Its supervisory board comprises Aide to the RF President Arkady Dvorkovich, General Director of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” Sergey Kiriyenko, Deputy Chairman of the RF Government Igor Sechin and others. 

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. The plant operates two power units with VVER-1000-type reactors with installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Power unit No.1 was put into commercial operation in 2001; power unit No 2 - in December of 2010.
