On February, 15-16, 2011 scientific conference ТKursk NPP: Yesterday, Today. TomorrowУ was held in Kursk NPP Public Information Centre. The conference goal is to stimulate Kursk NPP scientific branch, attract young specialists to the study of theoretic and practical aspects of nuclear power.

Specialists of International Nuclear Centre, The Nuclear Society of Russia, NIKIET, VNIIAES, Kurchatov Institute, Russian Scientific Centre, Atomenergoproekt (Moscow city), Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, the representatives of executive and law branches, public organizations of the district of the NPP location, MSS-125, FMBA of Russia, Leningrad NPP, Mass Media, students and tutors of profiled educational establishments took part in the event.

Nikolay Sorokin, Kursk NPP Director, opened the event. He told the participants about the basic lines of Kursk NPP work on implementation of the Energetic Strategy up to 2030, and foundation documents on nuclear power industry development. 

ТThe topic of today conference is extremely essential. And we have something to be proud of. The plantХs ТYesterdayУ is 35 years of safe and reliable work on production of electric power for almost all Russian Central Black Earth Region. Up to now, an enormous amount of the work, aimed at improvement of reactor units capacity, has been carried out, a scale modernization of all the four power units was organized, a modern infrastructure of nuclear, radiation and ecologic safety that guarantees the protection of the personnel, the population and the environment, is created. Tomorrow it is necessary to construct replacement facilities, for Kurchatov city and Kursk region to develop in full valueУ, Р Nikolay M. Sorokin noted.

Alexander Uvakin, Kursk NPP Chief Engineer, appeared with the main report. He told the participants of the history of Kursk NPP engineering and construction, its place within the country nuclear power industry, voiced the results of the work carried out on global modernization of all the operating power units, shared the further prospect plans of nuclear plant development. 

At the public conference the Mass Media and public was presented with a great volume of information on Kursk NPP power units modernization and operating life prolongation, nuclear and radiation safety, power units shut down after the operation time is over. The reports on modernization deepening and the prospects of reactors construction channel branch development, the estimation of the modernization in regulatory authorities, and such important topics as safety culture, NPP personnel medicine monitoring, Kursk nuclear plant priority directions were voiced.
