Diesel driven generators are being prepared for the cold and hot equipment trials at power unit No 1 under construction of Leningrad NPP

A large-scale commissioning works of process equipment for emergency power system are now going in the reserve diesel power plant building of Leningrad NPP power unit No 1 under construction. The maximum task is to ensure the readiness of the two diesel driven generators (DDG) channels for the cold and hot equipment trials starting in late March.

As Alexandr Rudnik, the Deputy Chief Engineer of Leningrad NPP under construction explained, right now all four emergency power system DDGs are at their fixed places. The reserve diesel power plant building is powered under the standard scheme.

ТToday the main focus is on the first and second sets of reserve diesel power plant: the specialists of the contractor company continue commissioning the auxiliary systems process equipment. We finished the lubrication system flushing for the first set. In the near future we will carry out a similar operation for the second set. The cooling system flushing is completed. In addition, we have started air-pressure test of the air starting system. The measuring communications checkout is in process too. All these and a number of other operations are to be completed by the mid-February. After that, the diesels will be rolled at idleУ, Alexandr Petrovich described.

He also added that the participants of the new Leningrad NPP power units construction face a very ambitious task Р to finish overall test of the two diesel generators (at nominal capacity rate and under load) by the end of February. The tests will be carried out by specialists of Atomtekhenergo JSC under the supervision of the manufacturer engineers from Wartsila Finland OY and specialists of Leningrad NPP electrical shop. The tests have to confirm the high quality of DDG manufacture and assembly, their main parameters and readiness to start the stage of cold and hot unit equipment trials.

In total, Leningrad NPP received five sets of diesel generators Р for systems of reliable power supply for normal operation and emergency power supply. These sets are critical for nuclear power plant Р in case of the external power source blackouts they will provide electric energy to all the main process equipment transferring the reactor facility to a safe state.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
