On March 4, 2011 Delegation of representatives of executive and representing authorities of Chukotka AD made a working visit to Bilibino NPP.

The working group participants, represented by Larisa Ponomareva, a member of CAO Federation Council, Galina Stepanova, Duma Deputy, representatives of Chukotka Autonomous District Government and Vladimir Maslov, Chief Physician of Anadyr city district hospital, as well as Leonid Nikolayev, head of Bilibino district, and Vladimir Markiyev, Chief Physician of Bilibino district hospital, met Bilibino nuclear plant personnel.

The prospects of Chukotka Autonomous District economic development for the period from 2011 to 2020 became the main topic of the meeting.

At the meeting with the personnel, the issue of further destiny of Bilibino district, rich with natural resources, the development of which is in need of capital investments, was raised. The atomists appealed to the administration of executive and representing district authorities with a number of questions concerning the work of public health service, flight connection provision. The question of adjustment of the prices for plane tickets and food stuffs appeared to be one of the thorniest ones.

The delegation members told the present people about their work results for the decade, and about the plans for implementation of the Strategy for Further East Social and Economic Development up to 2020.

At the meeting it was noted that successful fulfillment of the projects aimed at development of precious metal fields is impossible without a timely solution to the problems of power supply. The appearance of new power consumers is of great importance for Bilibino NPP, and even now it is possible to forecast, that the demand for electric power will exceed supply. The indispensable condition for the district development is its financing from non-budget sources. But for Chukotka to become attractive for potential investors, it is necessary to develop the district infrastructure: power industry, automobile roads, flight connection. At present time, it is one of the first Chukotka AD Duma Administration problems. ТChukotka must be independent, self-containedУ, - Galina Stepanova, Duma Deputy, underlined.

The further field development will require a significant volume of electricity supply facilities construction. The attracted investments of native and foreign capital for geologic research and goldmining at the sites of Central and Western Chukotka will allow creation of a long-term foundation for industry and population well-being growth.

The electricity supply business development will help to solve not only the problem of Chaun-Bilibino industrial area power supply, but also Bilibino city social problems, positively influence qualified staff securing, first of all, at the nuclear plant, and, undoubtedly, will effect Bilibino NPP operation further safety improvement.
