This year is declared the Year of Environment by Russian President Р has started for the workers of Balakovo NPP with an important and responsible exam Р recertification audit of its own environmental management system in compliance with national and international standards.

The audit at Balakovo NPP lasted for four days Р from 24 to 27 January 2017 Р and affected all environmental aspects of the nuclear power plant operations.

According to the auditors, which were represented not only by Russian but also by international experts, the environmental management system at the enterprise represents the establishment of such an order that makes a responsibility for the environmental impact one of the top priorities for each employee, as well as the enterprise in general.


To ensure that the environmental management successfully functions at the power plant the auditors thoroughly checked the enterpriseХs special documentation, visited the plants and departments, talked with the staff. Power plant specialists showed the development and improvement of environmental protection procedures.

ТMany times I have participated in environmental audits at Balakovo NPP, and I want to note that the process of technology improvement to minimize the environmental impact is constant at almost all the departmentsУ, the auditor of DQS, BSI Sergey Fomin noted. ТFor example, I was amazed by the transformation at the plantХs specialized laundry. From the ecology perspective it implements a perfect solution: activity-based network oriented for every type of protective clothing and its processing period. The project provides a real saving of natural resources and electric energy and minimizes the possibility of personnel and environment exposure. WeХve seen nothing like this in other companies.У

Environmental friendliness of Balakovo NPP is confirmed by years of research. Over the entire period of operation there was no negative effect on the surrounding environment, and the radiation situation in the off-site area is at the level of the background values that were observed before the start of construction. Annual radioactive releases into the atmosphere and discharges into surface waters do not exceed the permissible limits.

As of the end of 2016 Balakovo NPP was announced the winner of the All-Russian competition ТThe Leader of Environmental Activity in RussiaУ for the ninth time. And expert advice on the results of the last audit was to extend the Russian certificate and issue to the plant the certificate of environmental management system compliance with the requirements of the new version of ISO 14001: 2015; it signifies the recognition of the plantХs ecological safety as high at international level.
